Austin City Limits Music Fest Wrap-up

Ha Ha Tonka kicked off Friday morning with a 9am performance at the Four Seasons in Austin for KUT and their Seton Shivers Cancer Center Benefit. After a couple breakfast burritos the boys treated a lawn full of KUT listeners to a set of 5 songs. FOX 7 even aired a portion of our performance on the midday news. Other performers that morning included Charles Bradley, North Mississippi Allstars and Hayes Carll.

After the benefit we all headed over to the ACL Festival grounds to load in. We all hung with Charley, Mark and the rest of the BMI crew before the boys hit the stage at 12:45pm. The boys kicked off the set with “St Nick…” to around 1500+ people. By the 3rd song there were 5000+ music fans watching the stage. One of the highlights of the show was that during the band’s a capella version of “Hangman” a dark cloud quickly moved in, the wind picked up and for the first time in over 3 months rain started to pour down over the crowd. By the end of the following song, “Pendergast Machine,” the rain had stopped and was just enough to cool everyone down. Brett mentions “This rain is a gift from Missouri. We brought this with us” and the crowd went nuts. I heard several times “Did you hear that Ha Ha Tonka made it rain?”

  1. Ha Ha Tonka did an awesome job and had a great crowd for 12:45 opening day of ACL! Have watched these guys for 4+ years now and they have perfected their sound as it’s beautiful and magical. I have their beautiful harmonizing voices with me always.
